Toronto ON Teacher Committed Relationship
Hello Everyone! It is so wonderful that you are organizing this reunion. A big thanks to the committee. The time sure has gone by quickly, hard to believe that we all graduated from high school 35 years ago. So a bit about me - I finished my undergrad degree in Fine Arts at the University of Calgary and then headed to Toronto to complete my Masters in Arts Education. I settled into a teaching job soon after and now have been teaching High School for 30 years. I have been the Head of the Arts department for most of my career working with at - risk youth. The job has been so rewarding. I feel lucky to have such a great career. It is hard to believe, but soon I will be retiring, yikes! I live with my partner, Franki. We have been together for 25 years. We have a cute dog Daisy, who will be turning 16 soon.  We spend our summers travelling and enjoy our time at our cottage in the Muskokas. I am sorry to be missing this reunion. I would have been great to see everyone again. Enjoy the weekend!

Married 3
It’s Friday evening in Vancouver, and I wish I was in Calgary at the Riverstone Pub. I’m sorry to miss the 35th, but looking forward to the 40th. By way of an update, I am still unable to play a musical instrument, despite the best efforts of Lawrence Sparling. I do still have the guitar he convinced me to buy. One day. Some things have changed. My children are amused by my sudden need to hold books at a distance, and I’m amused by their continued interest in my well being (or at least that’s what I take it for). I also still have my Queen E. rugby jersey, which was apparently made out of a fabric that resists not only teenage aggression, but more impressively the passage of time. Perhaps I’ll go home this evening and try it on, to see what it has to say about the last 35 years. In the meantime, I’ll wish you all the best and share at least the occasion to remember some very good years.

AB Director Human Resources Married 2
My goodness where have the years gone... Life has treated me well, I have been happily married to Dave Delay (a good ole boy from St. Andrews) for 32 years and have 2 amazing sons (Tyer 26 & Tom 30).  I have enjoyed a good career in Human Resources and have been at the same company for 31 years.  We have lived in High River, AB since we were married and raised our sons here.  We were devastated by the 2013 Floods and have since rebuilt - and our family and friends where all safe so in the end that is all that counted.  Our oldest son Tom is getting married in September (yikes I can hardly believe it) and very excited for him and Christine.  I am delighted (yet kinda scared) to come to our high school reunion and look forward to seeing you all! Ok, procrastination time is over, time for a game day bio; love it!
In the beginning …
Won’t go back too far, only 10 years since the last bio but you know what they say, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Still in Okotoks (surprised I haven’t bumped into Ingrid!) however circumstances have altered my address.  Like many of you (too many unfortunately) my first marriage ended in 2013 but I’ve been fortunate to meet a wonderful woman (Terri) and am currently engaged, looking at a 2nd Las Vegas wedding sometimes next year, because my first wedding in Vegas ended so well … I’m no quitter!
Four young kids, 11, 13, 13 and 18 – all really great people, very exciting to watch them grow up into young men and women.
Been with Sprung Structures for 32 years, thinking of making a career of it but right now I don’t want to limit my options!
I greatly enjoyed reading everyone’s bios, looks like the class of ’81 was a stellar crop.  That’s all for now, you’ll have to wrestle the rest of the story out of me tonight.

Cheers!

Lantana TX Sales Married 3
It has been great reading all the bios and it has brought back many memories. It sounds like for a motley crew we all ended up becoming contributing members of society that have kept our youthful good looks! I wish I could be there but my wife's parents are celebrating their 60th this weekend and I need to be here taking care of our special needs son while she is back in Quebec.

Not only is it hard to believe it has been 35 yrs, it is almost harder to believe that Liane and I have been married for 32 years. Those years have taken us to great places, great experiences and great friends. We went from Calgary, to Phoenix, back to Calgary, back to Phoenix, then outside NYC, down to Raleigh and now Dallas. After growing up in the west, I really became an east-coaster, and there are things about NY I don't miss (taxes!), but I really miss not being in Manhattan more often. Being in the city on 9/11 was definitely an experience that will never be forgotten.

Despite less the stellar grades in high school, getting married provided the necessary incentive and I was able to successfully get through an MBA. I have been in software sales with the same company for 21 yrs and it has been a great ride. We are a small legal ERP company, based in LA, that is part of a much larger Thomson Reuters. I am a global account exec managing a group of global law firms. The years have led to seeing the inside of way too many airports and hotels but been fortunate to visit some really interesting places.

Like everyone's kids, we have been blessed with 3 that are so much fun: Sammie (26), Alex (23) and Kendra (20). Sammie is completing her Masters in Social Work at the Univ of Utah. She is the "fixer" and she is planning to work in a hospital helping individuals and families going through difficult medical challenges. She worked for a year as an investigator for the Utah child protective services before grad school and she is definitely willing to step into difficult situations. Alex is our special needs son and he is like a 2 yr old intellectually. He lives with us and he is a great blessing in our lives and in our family. He keeps things exciting for us and Liane has unselfishly devoted her "career" to taking care of Alex and his needs. Kendra is on a golf scholarship at BYU and working on a business marketing degree. Her life has revolved around golf since she picked up the game and she wants to make it a career in some way. She is the "goal setter" and is now highly ranked and been an academic all-american so she just keeps working on the next goal. Both Sammie and Kendra have been wonderful and caring sisters to Alex and it is one of the things I appreciate the most about both of them.

It has been a rewarding 35 yrs and not without its challenges but a journey I have really enjoyed. I kept up staying active in several sports for a long time but work, travel and family started making it harder and then I just got to be too slow!

I really wish I could be there to catch up and to share the memories and hear your individual stories. I sincerely appreciate those that have taken the time to organize the reunion and sorry I can't be there to thank you in person. Hopefully I will see all of you at the 50th!!

Lethbridge AB Child and Family Therapist Married 1
Well hello everyone! Wow - 35 years. Hard to figure out what to write - do I try and be witty and light, or blurt out real, hard core stuff? Lots happens in 35 years! Here goes - I've been married for 28 years to James Frey (not the author though he does write!), we have an amazing, complicated and challenging daughter now 18 years of age and just off to college. I've been a Child and Family Therapist for 15 years in Private Practice. I specialize in Trauma work (helping children 2 yrs of age to 22years cope with physical, mental and sexual abuse and high conflict divorce). I also teach part-time at Lethbridge College in Psychology and Sociology. My favorite class to teach is my Sociology of Sexuality (I can hear the comments now!). Have unfortunately - like all of you - had to deal with too much loss in my life and so have learned to cherish the little things, live life to the fullest and surround myself with love and laughter as much as possible. To that end we all went ocean kayaking this summer in Tofino! We live in Lethbridge but I try to travel as much as possible. Seattle is a favorite haunt and I had the priviledge of visiting my maternal grandparents home villages in Hungary a few years ago. In my spare time I practice mindfulness, meditation, yoga, running, reading and writing. My dog and cat keep me grounded and coffee keeps me awake! Hoping to see you all soon! Hi all,
I've really been looking forward to this event and even pleaded with the organizers to consider date changes so I could come.  Now my plans to attend are crashed by a date change in the masters program I am in, so I will not be able to attend!!  Arg!  I'm sorry to miss reconnecting and sharing stories with ya'll.

I moved to Vancouver in 1985, inspired by my friendship with George Nickoloff...thanks for the encouragement George!  My laundry list of life stuff would include studying music, a short career as a percussionist and many years working in health care and education fields.   Currently I run my own business as a leadership consultant and group facilitator.  My areas of focus are masculinity, conflict, rites of passage, teaching process facilitation and teaching improvisational a cappella singing.  I am completing a masters in facilitation and conflict studies and feel this is a life-altering moment for me.  I am grateful to have found this area of study after not finding much in mainstream education that I could really hook in to for a looong time. From starting an undergrad in Calgary in 1984 to finishing my first degree, an M.Ed. in 2012, it only took me 28 years!  I love my work as I get to be my best self and be in meaningful service to others.  I find inspiration in some of the elder teachers I've met in the journey, sharing their passion for learning and growth into their 80's and 90's.  I have no interest in retirement, only more engagement!

I have not married, nor had children.  I always thought I would but it just didn't happen, and I've decided that biological fatherhood is out for me this life.  I have done a lot of work with teens and young adults and so give a lot of my parenting energy via mentoring.  I am in a committed relationship and feel really lucky to have met this woman.  I am still playing some basketball and listening to some of the music I listened to when we were at QE!  I am sorry to see the list of our classmates who have died.  It's just unfathomable what unfolds in this life at times.  I continue to be grateful for health, community and each opportunity to follow my passions, and connect with interesting folks, like you all. I've really enjoyed reading other's entries here to see where you've gone, been, done.  Thanks a lot for sharing.  It's amazing!

I think it really also needs mentioning how much stuff can come up for people around the kind of 'time travel' that reunions create.  Unfulfilled dreams, comparisons, attractions we had/have for each other, potentials reached or not, how different we lmight ook now, or not, etc...I appreciate the organizers for saying "don't worry about who you were" and I extend it by hoping all of us can appreciate the immense and diverse journey we've been of for 35 years and who we are now as well.

I send best wishes and good blessings on the reunion.  I hope it is really fun, suprising, mysterious, sexy, and meaningful.

All the best and big big thank you to the organizing crew for putting this all together.  I really appreciate you and am sorry that I can't make it!!

Calgary AB Semi Retired Chartered Accountant Married 2
Hi Class of 1981 - so looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.
Well what can I say,  I've had a pretty good life thus far. Still live in Calgary! Been happily married now for over 28 years to Donna, have 2 university graduates for sons (Mitchell is 24 with BSc, BArts, BEd from U of A and Trevor is 22 with BBA from St FX) although they have moved back home "temporarily" and at peace with my life. I while away my time with occasional - soccer coaching, client work, volunteer gigs, event planning, fund raising, golf, cheering for the Flames and travel.
So what have I done in 35 years? Well probably the same as you - went to school (U of C), worked as a Chartered Accountant and CFO for a bunch of companies, raised a family, continue to be an ATM, try to keep fit (losing that battle) and avoiding the Asian plateau. And as luck will have it, been semi (but mainly) retired for the past 3 years plus. I seem to keep finding projects to keep me busy and sane.
So what's in my future - hoping to be a grand dad someday. But only when my boys are ready for that procreating thing; of course once they have established a career and find the right girl - easy right?
Hope this note finds you happy and healthy in whatever you chose to do!
